Remaining members of the Gold Coast & District Ex-POW Association voted the local branch out of existence at their monthly General Meeting held at the Burleigh Heads RSL Sub-branch Hall on Sunday, 1st March 2009. Membership had been declining in recent years and age had caught up with many. The remaining Ex-POWs will remain members of State Ex-POW association and those members who are able will continue to be involved with local schools for commemorative services and other events on the Gold Coast.

These elite ex-military personnel who suffered and endured in the worst possible way during past wars are and have been an inspiration to many of our veterans and the children here on the Gold Coast. We, at Burleigh Heads RSL Sub-branch wish them well for the future and extend a warm welcome should they ever wish to visit the Burleigh Heads RSL Sub-Branch.
