Burleigh Heads RSL Sub-Branch holds its first monthly meeting of the year
(As reported by our buzzing local correspondent 'Fly on the Wall' or simply 'Fly' to his friends)

Only 61 of the 220 plus members attended the first monthly meeting of the Burleigh Heads RSL Sub-Branch on February 11 with an additional 43 submitting apologies. One has to ask, where are the rest, the other 55%?

After signing-in, picking up their badges and purchasing the customary $5 or $10 worth of raffle tickets - considered by many to be a bit like a 'cover charge', some embarked on a little bit of catch-up with a friend or two while others simply looked for the President 'to get on with it.' Many, still looking like they were getting over the Christmas festivities, they lounged around and appeared to just want the meeting to be over and the drinks to start flowing.

It wasn't long before sub-branch president, Christopher Keating, ably assisted by a secretarial fill-in on the day, Barry Applegate, due to the absence of sub-branch secretary, Trevor Taylor, who had been held hostage in St.George by an air-conditioner and DVD player, obliged those present and launched into his monthly ritual. In less than an hour, the formalities were complete. The president reminded all present that next month we get to do it all again.

And then, it was down to the real business of the day - hops tasting.
