In Moe on Wednesday to officially open the Moe and District Veterans’ and Service Support Centre, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Alan Griffin announced a $37,000 Australian Government grant for the centre. Mr Griffin said the funding would pay for a practical and easily accessible transport option for isolated veterans around the district. “I am pleased to announce a $37,056 Veteran & Community Grant for the Moe and District Veterans’ and Services Support Centre for the purchase of a community bus,” Mr Griffin said.
Veteran & Community Grants fund projects that help veterans, war widows and widowers continue to live independently in their own homes, as well as initiatives to encourage social activities and improve access to community care services. “This community bus is a great addition to the array of services already provided by the Moe and District Veterans’ and Services Support Centre and I congratulate its volunteers on their continuing commitment to supporting the local veteran community,” Mr Griffin said.
Veteran & Community Grants are available to ex-service and community organisations, veteran representative groups and private organisations that contribute to the health and welfare of the veteran community.
