Man loses job, evicted then wins $1.8m home

THINGS could not have been more grim for ex-serviceman John Glaister a week ago.

The former navy veteran, 46, lost his job as a warehouse assistant and was evicted from his rental home at Munruben near Beaudesert. It's believed he was fired because he was late for work after looking for somewhere else to live.

A week later, Mr Glaister is a millionaire with a life of luxury ahead.

He struck it rich in the RSL Art Union lottery and will today be handed the keys to a $1.8 million waterfront prize home on the Gold Coast. The fully furnished Hope Island home boasts four bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen, swimming pool and a lifestyle that Mr Glaister could only dream about last week.

“I have been struggling for the past eight years and when I found out that I was being evicted and then lost my job I felt helpless and worried for my future,” he said. “Winning the RSL Art Union means that I can get back on my own two feet and support myself and those who have assisted me through the hard times.''
