Friday the 15th August 2008 was a beautiful day in Burleigh Heads,
the Memorial park was a picture to behold, the sound system was
set up and playing war time ditties, chairs set out and marquee
erected to give some shade from the sun. We are very fortunate
to have a very supportive Councillor Gregg Betts and council,
much thanks goes to them for their contribution.

The Burleigh Heads RSL Commemoration service for the 63rd Anniversary
of the end of World War two went off very well. The Federal
Member for McPherson & Shadow Minister for Ageing, Margaret
May & State Member of Parliament, Christine Smith found
time in their busy schedule to join World War Two Veterans,
other Veterans and ex-service persons who came along to pay
their respects to the thousands who lost their lives fighting
for the survival of Australia and democracy during those dark
days.
The crowd attending
was smaller this year as this day of remembrance 15th August,
VP/VJ day, is not supported to the same degree as ANZAC and
Remembrance days. We, the members at Burleigh RSL believe this
day is a significant day and will continue to remember the fallen
and departed on this special day and will combine to remember
those veterans from the Vietnam War who gave their all.
We take time on this day to remember and appreciate the sacrifices
that were made during those days between 1939 to 1945. A huge
thanks to those who made the effort to come along to pay their
respects and to remember their mates who are no longer with
us! "Lest We Forget"
