Boer War Memorial needs your help

The Prime Minister has allotted a site in Anzac Parade Canberra for the construction of a Memorial to those who left Australia between 1899 and 1902 to fight in South Africa. Initially they were from the Australian colonies and later from the new Commonwealth of Australia. Please refer to the Web Site for further details at www.bwm.org.au

Why is it that the other major wars Australians have fought in, are commemorated in Anzac Parade Canberra but not the Boer War? Australia lost more soldiers in the Boer War than in Vietnam. That makes it our third most devastating war after WW1 and WW11.

Why has it taken all this time for Australia to formally recognise their sacrifice? Well, you now have the opportunity to help right this wrong.

Boer War Memorial (BWM) Committees, have now been set up in all the States and Territories but they need more volunteers to help. Please ring the BWM office on (02)93393309 or (02)93393209, if you can help and/or if you have any ideas which you think may assist.

The roll of the committees is to advertise the project and to raise funds! The Prime Minister has indicated that unless we can show there is enough support in the wider community for this Memorial, no donation will be made by Government and even then that support will be minimal.

You are requested to make a personal donation and in addition, to canvass your family, your friends and all groups to which you belong, for donations. The BWM can provide you with brochures which can be circulated with any newsletters etc. Please phone the office to have supplies delivered to you.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible and may be made to the BWM at Building 96 Victoria Barracks Paddington NSW 2021, or by electronic transfer to the Defence Credit Union either to BSB803205 A/c No. 20739876 or via the internet using website: www.bwm.org.au

Please do your personal best to make this long overdue challenge a success and thus honour our Boer War soldier in a way that all future generations of Australians will appreciate. This is an investment in our history and culture.
