The Minister for
Veterans Affairs, Bruce Billson, has reassured Defence
Service Homes Insurance (DSHI) policy holders that claims in
relation to last weeks Gippsland Floods will be processed
quickly and that initial inspections are underway. Mr Billson
said that all claims received so far that require an inspection
of the property have been inspected by DSHI appointed loss assessors.
I urge any DSHI policy holders who have not yet submitted
claims to do so promptly, and assessors will have them processed
as quickly as possible, Mr Billson said.
To lodge a claim,
or for policy information contact DSHI on 1300 552 662, 24 hours
a day, seven days a week. The majority of claims made
have been in relation to storm damage, and thankfully for most
policy holders, damage to homes has been minimal. There
has been one claim for extensive flood damage rendering a home
uninhabitable. DSHI building insurance policy includes cover
for temporary accommodation, and as such will cover the cost
of a requested on-site caravan until the insureds home
is repaired.
DSHI home buildings
insurance includes coverage for loss or damage caused by storm
and flood activity. The DSHI home contents policyunderwritten
by QBE Insurancealso includes coverage for these events.
Our aim
is for DSHI to continue inspecting new claims in a timely manner
and to begin the process of repairs so that policy holders can
return to normal living as soon as possible, Mr Billson
said. Policyholders
should call DSHI if they are unsure about whether their claim
should be lodged under their buildings or contents insurance
policy.
