The Electroboard-Polycom
Australian Services Rugby Championship was played last week
in Canberra at Vikings Park Tuggeranong. The games featured
men and women from the Navy, Army and Air Force competing
for the Commodore Mick Dunne Trophy (women) and the Caldwell
Shield (men). The Army men and women's teams played Navy and
a composite Navy/Air Force team respectively. Despite very
tough opposition, Army had a clean sweep with Army women winning
12-10 and Army men winning 22-13.
"Fitness and team sports are a big part of military culture.
The rugby matches were hard fought with plenty of competitive
rivalry displayed by the
players both on the field and by their supporters on the sidelines",
said Commodore Kevin Taylor, Chairman of Australian Services
Rugby.
