40th Anniversary of Battle Of Long Tan - 18th August 2006

As you are aware 2006 is the 40th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, with Vietnam Veteran's Day on the 18 August seen as a significant date in Australia's war time history. The DVA would like to discuss and share ideas on how the Vietnam Veteran community would like to see the 40th anniversary commemorated.

Some initial ideas from the TPI association include:

The Long Tan Cross, Nui Dat, Vietnam 2005

~ a commemorative service at the Australian Vietnam Forces National Vietnam Memorial on Anzac Parade in Canberra;
~ a major/reunion/concert/BBQ, possibly to be held at Exhibition Park in Canberra;
~ initiatives to showcase how the Vietnam veteran community has made a positive contribution to their own welfare and to the broader Australian community; and
~ a commemorative mission to Vietnam.

  These are just a few ideas and are aimed at generating feedback from our members. At this point no funding has been allocated and nothing has been set in stone.

Could you please pass this email on far and wide to as many Vietnam veteran's as possible. Please encourage them to come up with ideas so that we are able to pass on to the DVA exactly what their feelings are. I believe this is a great positive opportunity for grass roots involvement.
