Our
above esteemed member departed this life on 3rd May, 2010, aged
87.
Jack
joined Burleigh Heads RSL Sub-Branch on 12 April 2000. During
his membership, Jack was a regular attendee and a supportive
member, enjoying an amber ale and a yarn with his mates. He
also enjoyed playing lawn bowls at Birleigh Heads Bowls Club
on a regular basis up until recent times when ill-health prevented
these activities.
Jack enlisted in the Voluntary Militia Forces at Armidale NSW
on 1/3/1939 aged 16 (but listed DOB as 1920 to be accepted).
He commenced fulltime war service 16/12/1941 in CMF at Coffs
Harbour and Kempsey until 23/9/1942 when his unit, 12th Light
Horse was disbanded. He transferred to 12 Aust Armoured Car
Regt, 3rd Armoured Div. Jack joined AIF 24/9/1942 and served
until discharge 3/1/1946 when with 2/9 Aust. Field Regt with
the rank of Corporal.
Jack was a popular member, one of natures' gentlemen, and will
be sadly missed by all who knew him. Our deepest sympathy to
Jack's family.
Jack's life will
be celebrated with a Requiem Mass at
Infant Saviour Catholic Church,
Park Avenue, Burleigh Heads
on
Friday, 7th May 2010 at 1:30pm
