THOMAS RAYMOND MOONEY
22 December 1924 - 27 March 2010

Ex RAAF WWII

Our above esteemed member departed this life on 27th March, 2010, aged 85.

Tom joined the Burleigh Heads RSL Sub-Branch in January 1997. During his years with the sub-branch, Tom was a regular attendee and a very active and supportive member. Tom held the position of Junior Vice President 1999/2000 and Senior Vice President 2001/2002. Due to health issues, he retired to a committee position for 2002/2003. The following year, Tom and his wife, Shirley, made the decision to move in with his daughter, Sharon, and Son-in-Law, Gerard, up in the Tamborine mountains. In the early stages, Tom still tried to get to the meetings but that became too difficult for him. However, Tom always kept in touch by phone. He often would speak of his old mates from Burleigh RSL. He would ask me to pass on his regards.

The last two years have been very difficult health wise for Tom and Shirley. With great love and care, their lives were made easier through the help of their family.
Tom had been in Greenslopes Hospital in the last few weeks and passed away this afternoon, Saturday 27th March 2010 at 1500hrs with his daughter Sharon by his side.

Tom enlisted in the RAAF on 23 February 1943 and served until 12 November 1945 ex-434995, reaching the rank of Warrant Officer. He then continued his service for many years with the RAAF reserves ex-016731 and reached the rank of Squadron Leader until his retirement.

Tom will be missed by the sub-branch members, his family and his mates. Our deepest sympathy to Shirley and all of Tom's family.

A family private graveside service will be held at the Lutwyche cemetery on March 31st at 11:00AM.
For details of the exact location, please contact Tom's daughter, Sharon, on 0406234430.
